Critical Health aims to build a valuable global business of Health Information Technology Products. The products are focused on preventing Loss of Vision and Loss of Mobility and Cognitive skills for Diabetics and people older than 65 years in developed countries.

Critical Health is developing a product portfolio under two different business units:

Vision
Within the Vision business unit, the company provides solutions for pathologies like Diabetic Retinopathy, Age-related Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma. The first product being launched is Retmarker, a solution for monitoring the progression of Diabetic Retinopathy and Age-related Macular Degeneration, by providing information that helps doctor's focus their analysis and complementary exams on the most relevant areas of the fundus photos (retinographies).

Health Monitoring
In the Health Monitoring business unit, the company provides a solution to improve patients’ quality of care and save caregivers time in Assisted Living facilities. The patients wear small devices, such as necklaces and bracelets, to monitor patients ECG, fall detection and their location within a facility. The monitoring software directs the alarms to the right type of caregivers at the right time. The system is being developed directly with customers to create products that provide significant return on investment for the Assisted Living facilities.

Retmarker is Critical Health's solution to monitor the progression of retinal diseases, which are the leading causes of blindness in the Western World. Retmarker is currently available in two products’ versions.

RetmarkerC uses image processing technology and the latest medical research to deliver a product that automatically detects retinal changes accurately, effectively and effortlessly, over time.

The other product, RetmarkerDR uses the same advanced proprietary co-registration algorithm which automatically overlaps retinographies and complements it with a state-of-the-art Microaneurysm (MA) detector to calculate important ratios regarding MA Turnover (Formation and Disappearance Rates). Latest researches on Microaneurysm Turnover point it as the newest and most reliable biomarker for Diabetic Retinopathy progression in a mild non-proliferative stage to Clinically Significant Macular Edema (CSME), a sight-threatening stage.

Recently, Critical Health has developed RetmarkerAMD Research, a new solution that allows computer-assisted grading of digital images from patients with Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD).

Retmarker won in London the 2010 European IT Excellence Award competing with the most important Organizations in the sector from 26 European countries.

Other Competences
At Critical Health, we are also working with our partners to overcome one of the biggest challenges in the Healthcare IT landscape, which is the integration and interoperability of systems. Even though it is not our core business, our relationship with Critical Software - where we have highly specialized teams working in Integration, based mostly on Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) - provides us the tools and knowledge to put our competences at the service of our partners and our community.
